Vlissingen has had in its centre since 1992 the shopping centre Scheldeplein with adjacent multi-level parking facility. It is situated in the promenade area of the city centre that has in part been roofed and for the rest well provided with canopies so that when shopping in the heart of Vlissingen you can always count on dry weather. The shopping centre is in the northern section of the city centre and is readily accessible by car, public transport and bicycle. There are also numerous shops in the adjacent streets.
The shops are generally closed on Monday morning and close on weekdays at 18.00 hour, except on Saturdays when they shut at 17.00 hour.

Shopping evenings and shopping Sunday

Most of the shops in the centre of Vlissingen are open on Friday until 21.00 hour. In the hub Oost-Souburg they are open every Thursday until 21.00 hour. Moreover the final Sunday of every month is ‘Koopzondag’ or Shopping Sunday. The shops in the centre of Vlissingen are then open from 13.00 to 17.00 hour.

Weekly markets and yearly markets

Every Friday there is the friendly bustle of the weekly market in Coosje Buskenstraat and on Scheldeplein. You will find stalls with fish, chicken, herbs, flowers, domestic articles, fabric etc. The market starts early and continues until the end of the afternoon.
As well as the weekly Friday market there is on Saturday at the top of the Walstraat promenade at Scheldeplein an additional market for fresh produce. No domestic articles on Saturday, just fresh produce from fish to cut flowers.

Heavily attended events are also the De Ruyter Yearly Market (Friday before Whitsunday), the Midsummer Night Market (first Friday in August) and the Carolingian Market every spring and autumn in Oost-Souburg).
