Committees

In the meeting of 30 November 2006 the municipal council decided to alter in 2007 the manner in which committees meet. The method of operation of 2006 with a permanent committee every Thursday and time blocks during which council proposals are discussed was evaluated. That resulted in new possibilities and choices.

The council decided to hold 4 committee meetings in the first two weeks of every month. In the third week there will be no committee meetings and the council meeting will continue to be held on the final Thursday of the month.

The substance of the committee meetings has been determined since1 January 2007 by the portfolios of the councillors. The mayor’s portfolio will be addressed on a fixed committee evening. Which evening is still under discussion.

The committees are named as follows:

• Committee work and income, social development
• Committee housing, land and ports
• Committee traffic, urban planning, education, parks, waste and environment and public order and safety
• Committee finances, economic affairs, sport and culture.
